Dear Ensemble Monterey Friends - To be immodest (name 3 modest conductors) one of my proudest accomplishments in 27 years of Ensemble Monterey concerts was our performance of Handel's epic oratorio, Israel in Egypt. In fact, if somebody held a gun to my head, I would have to admit the it is, perhaps, my favorite composition. It tells the story of the oppression of the Israelites and their flight to a new promised land. It is about 2 hours long, but here you have the very beginning and very end of the story, which in itself forms a complete narrative. To make it simple, God wins!

I am now off on another project which will take a little while, so this will be the last of our Ensemble Monterey downloads for a time. When I return, and if we are still in this covid situation, the downloads will resume. In the meantime I want to tell you that we are anticipating opening our regular Ensemble Monterey season with a free to everyone, streamed concert on Sunday afternoon, October 25th. Please mark your calendars: this will be a very special concert just for this unusual occasion.

Until I "see" you again, please be safe.
