Dear Ensemble Monterey Friends - As many of you know, Stephen Tosh was our Composer in Residence and close friend for most of Ensemble Monterey's existence. Today's composition, his Concertino for Violin and Orchestra, was dedicated to Ensemble Monterey and written specifically for our long-time Concertmaster, David Dally. We premiered this piece in April, 2016. It was the last of Steve's pieces that we recorded before his death.

At the beginning of this work you will be treated to Steve's incredible gift for lyric beauty. Just when you know that the line has to go to a certain note, Steve will fool you and go somewhere unexpected but brilliant. Like many of his works, the Concertino is kaleidoscopic in nature. Unexpected left turns take you places which, like the melodic conture, you never saw coming. Enjoy and rememberI

Also, please don't forge to mark your calendars for Sunday, October 25th, at 3 PM. We will be streaming our first concert of this season, "Concert in the Vineyard." It's free to everyone, so spread the word! Until Wednesday -

Yours in Music - John Anderson
